Built in 1889, The Adams Pragge House predates modern ADA standards. Unfortunately, it may not be suitable to accommodate all needs. Please consider the following information prior to booking with us to determine whether our space will work for you — and don’t hesitate to call if you have questions or need additional information.
General
- Driveway: The parking area is gravel. While it is possible to drop-off passengers at the brick walkway hugging the front of our home, the driver must cross the gravel on foot.
- Stairs to House: Guests must ascend 5 steps to the porch from ground level. These steps are broad, with handrails on each side.
- Stairs to Guest Floor: All guest rooms are located on the second floor, accessible only via the main stairway. This stairway is 37 inches wide, with a single handrail on the left as you ascend, right as you descend. There are 23 total steps. Risers are 6″ tall and tread depth is 11″. The steps turn a right angle at ground level and again midway up. Each turn is accomplished with 3 wedge-shaped steps whose treads narrow to a point on the left side (as you ascend) and are approximately 22″ wide on the right (as you ascend). There are 3 newel posts situated at the bottom, top, and mid-elevation turn. The image at right shown was taken from the second floor looking down towards the mid turn. At the mid turn, guests who rely on the handrail must move their hand from the rail to the top of the newel post for security, which is only a few inches but can present a challenge for some guests.
Bathrooms
En-suite bathrooms are not equipped with built-in handrails or other assistive devices. The toilets are standard to low in height. Upon request, we can install temporary handrails at the toilet.
The bathroom tub and shower configurations are different in each unit:
- Olympia (pictured) features a clawfoot tub with a hand-held sprayer for soaking and a shower conversion for standing. Accessing the tub requires stepping up and over the side. We provide a long, non-slip mat (stored in the sink vanity) for your safety inside the tub, as well as a terry bathmat for the floor to ensure your feet are dry and prevent slips on the marble tile.
- Victoria’s shower has a low threshold. For your safety inside the shower, we provide a non-slip mat (stored in the sink vanity). We also provide a terry bathmat for the floor to ensure your feet are dry and prevent slips on the marble tile.
- Cascadia offers both a claw-foot tub for soaking and a walk-in shower. Accessing the tub requires stepping up and over the side, and the entrance to the shower has a low threshold to cross. We provide a long, non-slip mat for your safety inside the tub, as well as a smaller non-slip mat for use in the shower. We also provide a terry bathmat for the floor to ensure your feet are dry and prevent slips on the marble tile.
